Rile 'Em Up
Project Description:
In this project we were told to open our minds or keep or minds open to political issue and topics around the country. Each student was told to research a political issue of their choice and learn about it for almost 2 months. After this we would then create art pieces, stencil's, an alternate identity and much more that supports our stance on the topic we have been researching the past 2 months.
Who was in your critique group? What was it like working with this group?
For this project our teacher created critique groups. A critique group was a group of people who helped each other when they needed help and most importantly give kind, specific and helpful feedback on work. Nate, Nidhal, Skylar, and Loren were in my critique group. Whenever I needed to clarify things I could ask them and at least one of them would know what I was asking for. They were very supporting and also helped me create ideas for things like me art piece.
What did you make in this project? What are a few things you learned?
We had many parts of this project in Humanities. Some of them were, an alternate art piece, stencil, an essay, and some writing pieces. During the process to create all of this work I also learned and improved on some skills. An example can be shown in my stencil because I created the stencil on Adobe Photoshop. I had only used it a couple times in the past but I improved some of the techniques I learned earlier which helped me create better quality. I also learned to improve the voice and style I use in my writing. This doesn't only help me but it gives the reader or audience a more clear understanding of what I am trying to communicate.
What went well in this project?
I personally felt that this project went really fast. I tried to stay on top of my work 85% of the time, which is not my best. The key skill that helped me push through this project was my ability to stay organized. Since we were given strong checkpoints throughout the project, it took some of the struggle of my back but with all the work floating around I could have gotten confused and had to start all over. One of the ways I organized was by creating my own checklist of work that I haven't completed instead of creating a checklist of work incomplete and complete.
What struggles did you have and how did you overcome them? What things did you do well concerning work ethic and what could you improve on?
A struggle I had, that was not very noticeable, was that I ended up with a good load of homework ON CERTAIN DAYS because of my lack of concentration in class. This wasn't a very hard challenge to overcome but it came back maybe about twice. I just pushed the next days because I knew I would be behind if I didn't catch up soon.
How would you change this project?
To change this project I would spread all the work out even more. Maybe the teachers could have assigned different products further apart from each other so people, like me don't get so stressed near the last week to stay or get on track. Overall this project did help me learn a whole lot about my political topic (which was GMOs) and also open my eyes to issues our country is facing and what we as teenagers can do to help out.
