Students Without Borders
Project Pitch
Background
Mali is one of the largest countries in West Africa. It is bordered by Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Guinea, Algeria and Burkina Faso in the West African Sahara, with the majority of fertile land being in the south with many rivers and bodies of water. With a population of 14.5 million and more than 1,240,192 square kilometers, it is important that Mali’s people always choose the right path for them and their futures. Poor people in Mali face many troubles every day and this can lead them to violence and bad ways to try and make money. Also when not provided a proper education kids and adults don’t know what really is out there in the world.
My Project
My project is " wheels on the bus", an educational activity bus traveling to villages around Mali teaching kids about their country and safety with things like food, water and playing sports. The reason I decided to do this project is because I learned that different cities of Mali do not have access to a proper education and clean water or food. This project will provide kids with a free and fun education so that they can learn about their very own country, the beauties of Mali, and how to stay safe while still having fun.
Technical Detail
Creating this educational bus will cost a lot of money which would not be easy. We would try to get donation for a school bus. The insides would be stripped to fit new chairs, fold-out desks, TVs, and more. Desks will fold down from the wall and chair will be stored in one section of the bus. One big TV will be placed in the back of bus and a small TV will be placed in the front. Computers will allow kids to play educational games pre-downloaded so there would be no need for WiFi. Two professional teachers will be present to guide kids through different games and teachings. The last part of the educational bus is that after completing the learning session the bus will provide every kid and their family with a meal as well as water. After visiting each village a picture will be taken with the group that the staff can then stick on the bus as a memory.
Status
The current status of the project is in the designing mode. I am looking for the cheapest way to accommodate all the necessary components to the bus and transportation of the bus if assembled in the U.S. To reduce costs further an option I have is to construct the bus in Mali. If you do have any suggestions contact me at [email protected] Thanks!
